Tom Selleck (born January 29, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, USA) is an American actor, film producer, and former model best known for his role as private investigator Thomas Magnum in the hit television series Magnum, P.I. (1980–1988), which earned him both an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe. Selleck grew up in California and attended the University of Southern California (USC) on a basketball scholarship before turning to acting. In the early years of his career, he appeared in commercials and small film roles, eventually breaking through with Magnum, P.I., which made him a household name. Beyond Magnum, Selleck has starred in films such as Three Men and a Baby (1987), Quigley Down Under (1990), and Mr. Baseball (1992). On television, he is also well known for his recurring role as Dr. Richard Burke on Friends and as Frank Reagan, the New York City Police Commissioner, in the long-running CBS drama Blue Bloods (2010–present). Outside of acting, Selleck served in the California Army National Guard during the Vietnam War era and has been an outspoken supporter of veterans. He is also passionate about ranching and has lived for decades on a working avocado ranch in California. Selleck married actress Jillie Mack in 1987, and they have one daughter together. He also has an older son from a previous relationship. Today, Tom Selleck is regarded as one of Hollywood’s most enduring leading men, admired for his charisma, trademark mustache, and longevity in the entertainment industry.
