Kevin Costner was born on January 18, 1955, in Lynwood, California, and raised in Compton. He studied marketing and finance at California State University, Fullerton, but turned to acting after college. His early career gained traction with a breakout role in “The Untouchables” (1987), followed by “No Way Out” (1987), “Bull Durham” (1988), and “Field of Dreams” (1989), which established him as a major Hollywood star. In 1990, Costner directed and starred in “Dances with Wolves,” a Western epic that won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. He continued his success with major roles in “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” (1991), “JFK” (1991), and “The Bodyguard” (1992). Though he faced setbacks in the late 1990s with films like “Waterworld” (1995) and “The Postman” (1997), he remained active with later successes such as “Open Range” (2003) and “Man of Steel” (2013). In 2018, Costner took on the lead role of John Dutton in the TV series “Yellowstone,” which became a major hit and reignited his fame. He is also working on “Horizon: An American Saga,” a multi-part Western film series he is directing and producing. Beyond acting, he leads the country-rock band Kevin Costner & Modern West.
